Meg Johnson started working at the Seattle Lighthouse as an independent contractor, filling in for Beth Jurco while she was away in December and January 2006 - 2007. She enjoyed that experience so applied for a position as a Lighthouse employee and was hired in March of 2007. Meg also continues to work with school aged students.

From 1983 to 1995, Meg worked in the birth to three segment of special education. In that arena she met a two year-old boy who is Deaf-Blind and shifted her focus to the field of Deaf-Blind education.  Between 1995 and 2006 Meg provided one-on-one support for two Deaf-Blind students, spending time in Canada periodically to expand her understanding and skills, as well as studying ASL at the American Sign Language Institute of Seattle (ASLIS). During Meg’s time at ASLIS she did some SSP work through the Deaf-Blind Service Center.

In the fall of 2006 Meg graduated from the O&M program at Stephen F. Austin University, which included an internship at the Community Services for the Blind and Partially Sighted in Seattle.

When Meg is not at the Lighthouse or working with Deaf-Blind children in the community she enjoys a variety of hobbies including gardening, hiking, kayaking, photographing flowers and reading. She is also active in her community providing stewardship to a nine acre natural park near her home. And you will often find her enjoying her days with her family; including two grandsons: Drue and Lucas.
