Nancy Sommer began working at the Lighthouse in 2004 as an Independent Living Skills Teacher. Prior to this she worked at the Deaf-Blind Service Center coordinating Support Service Providers (SSPs). Nancy grew up in Denver, Colorado in a mainstreamed environment. After graduating she went on to attend Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf in Texas where she worked on a portion of her undergraduate studies. From there she transferred to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) and received her degree in Business Technology. Later upon moving to Seattle she completed an additional certificate program at Seattle Central Community College in Business. At the Lighthouse she teaches Braille, cooking and any other skills that will allow Deaf-Blind adults to live more independent lives.

Nancy now lives here in Seattle near her older sister who is also Deaf-Blind. In her spare time she likes to workout at the gym, go to the beach and spend time with friends.
